Joel [sic Edward] Basinger

Pandora, Ohio, Aug. 22. — Mr. Edward Basinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Basinger, was born at the home farm near Pandora, Ohio, March 26, 1875, and died at Petoskey, Mich. last Tuesday, Aug. 13, 1929, aged 54 years, 4 months and 17 days. Death was due to an accident in a factory making meat cutter blocks. Mr. Basinger was crushed by a heay [sic] beam of timber against a concrete wall and passed away within about two hours after the accident.

On April 4, 1903, he was united in marriage to Miss Flora Smith, of Columbus Grove, who preceded him in death on Feb. 27, 1924.

He leaves to mourn, his aged mother, six brothers — Philip, Jesse, Homer, Ambrose, Joel and Ezra; 3 sisters, Mrs. J. M. Amstutz, of Shelby, Mich., and Mrs. Minnie Elliott and Eunice Jones of Toledo, Ohio.

Mr. and Mrs. Basinger never had any children but adopted Miss Anna Baxter who grew up to be a useful woman and who later married Michael Hergat with whom she now lives happily at Mansfield, Ohio. Mrs. Hergat and child are now in Pandora visiting relatives.

A brief funeral service was held at the home of his mother Mrs. Joel Basinger Sr. Friday P. M. and funeral proper at the Reformed Mennonite church, Rev. Peter Steiner, of Lima, officiating. Interment took place at Truro cemetery, west of Columbus Grove, by the side of his departed companion. — Pandora Times.
