MARY GOERTZEN BASE

Mary Goertzen Base, daughter of Jacob and Anna Goertzen, was born August 7, 1902, in McPherson County, Kansas, and passed away May 16, 1958, at her home near Burrton, Kansas, age 55 years, nine months and nine days.

In her youth she united with the Hutchinson Mennonite Church and later transferred her membership to the Burrton Mennonite Church.

On June 21, 1925, she was united in marriage to Jake Base of Burrton. This union was blest with four children, three daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Marita McBride of South Hutchinson, Kansas, Mrs. Marlene Neufeld of Burrton, Dwain [sic Dwane] and Valeta of the home.

In addition to her husband and four children, she leaves two grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Anna Goertzen of Hutchinson, Kansas; three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Johnson of Hutchinson, Mrs. Anna Looney of Haven, Kansas, and Mrs. Susie Anderson of Wichita, Kansas; and one brother, Martin Goertzen of Hutchinson.

In addition to her relatives she leaves many personal friends. These friends are the result of her interest in others. She was a kind companion and mother, always willing to sacrifice for the welfare of her family as well as for others. The memories of her kindness will long be recalled by those who knew her best.

Funeral services were held at the Burrton Mennonite Church May 19 in charge of Rev. Gideon G. Yoder. Interment was made in the Burrton cemetery
