WILLIAM P. BARTELL

William P. Bartell, son of Peter B. and Elizabeth Nikkel Bartel, was born Sept. 9, 1891 at Hillsboro, Kan. With his parents he moved to Colony, Okla., where he spent his years of youth. These were pioneering times and his formal education was cut short.

He received Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour at the age of 12, and was baptized and taken into the fellowship of the Mennonite Brethren Church.

As a young man, father went to homestead land in Montana. It was here that he met Katie Kroeker, whom he married on July 16, 1916. They made their home at Hydro, Mont. After three years they moved to Dallas, Ore., and within a year to Weatherford, Okla. In 1927 they moved to Bovina, Texas; and two years later to California, where they lived in the Shafter and Reedley-Dinuba area.

Theirs was a happy and blessed fellowship for almost 37 years. A family altar was carefully maintained.

This union was blessed with six children, two sons and four daughters. This union was severed when mother passed away in May 1953. One daughter, Joyce, Mr. [sic] Leonard Warkentin, also preceded him in death in 1952.

In 1954 father moved to Blaine, Wash., and was united in marriage to Tiena Dyck on July 11, 1954. After nine years and nine months both were taken in death in an automobile accident on April 21, 1963.

By God's grace father attained the age of 71 years, seven months, and 12 days. He leaves to mourn: His children: Elmer and Ruby Bartell of Custer, Wash., Rachel and Otto Just of Reedley, Calif., Leonard Warkentin and wife of Dinuba, Calif., Leroy and Georgia Bartell of Kingsbury, Calif., Lenora and Bob Heinrichs of Fresno, Calif., and Ruth and Harrel Adams of Bellingham, Wash.; 13 grandchildren, five step-children, 15 step-grandchildren; two brothers, Art Bartel of Salem, Ore., and Harry Bartel of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Anna, Mrs. John Fast of Salem, Ore., Minnie, Mrs. Joe Valeth of Salem, Ore., and Alma, Mrs. Joe Carnes of Bentonville, Ark. — The Family.
