text of obituary:

MRS. SUSANNA BARTEL

Susanna Miller Linscheid Bartel born to Jacob Miller and Katerina Rupp Miller Sept. 5, 1874, in Austria. In 1882 she with her parents, a sister and a brother emigrated to America and for a brief time settled at Halstead, Kansas.

The family moved to Arlington, Kansas, a year later. Her parents faced all the hardships of pioneer life and found it difficult to provide for the necessities of the family. She was taken into the home of J. J. Suderman in August of 1882. She stayed in the Suderman home for 14 years. She received her early education during this period.

During the year 1889 she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized upon her confession of faith by Rev. David Dick and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church in Lehigh, Kansas. In 1896 she went to Cantonment, Okla., where she worked as a seamstress in the mission school and taught a Sunday school class.

In the fall of 1898 she entered Bethel College and continued her studies there for nealry two years.

On Oct. 24, 1901, she married John P. Linscheid at Arlington, Kansas. They immediately moved to Butterfield, Minn. where they lived on their farm. To this union were born four sons, Marvin, Waldo, Eldor, and Arthur. In 1903 father's twin brothers Ted and Pete Linscheid came to live in the home. She cared for them and gave them the influence of a Christian home until they became of legal age. From this union father preceded her in death in 1918 and Waldo in the year 1950. She worked hard during these lonely yeas to care for each one of us and constantly demonstrated to us her vital and living faith.

On Oct. 15, 1939, she was married to G. A. Bartel of Aberdeen, Idaho. They made their home in an apartment above the Aberdeen Hardware Store. Mr. Bartel preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1941. She continued to live in this apartment until the time of her death. She enjoyed sewing various types of garments for others, and as a result she gained many friends. Her spirit of cheer inspired many.

She joined the First Mennonite Church of Aberdeen in 1939 and remained a faithful member. She could be seen in church every Sunday. She enjoyed her Sunday school class and the Women's Missionary Society.

On Jan. 4 she suffered a heart attack which greatly limited her activities and on Jan. 6 she had a second heart attack which confined her to bed. During her two weeks of illness she suffered comparitively [sic] little. During the last week she had hopes of again regaining her strength. She suffered a third heart attack before midnight on Jan. 20. From this she never recovered and to her was given the Eternal Home which her faith promised her. She reached the age of 82 years, four months and 15 days.

She leaves to cherish her beloved memory three sons, Marvin of Aberdeen, Eldor of Everett, Wash., Arthur of American Falls, and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Elbert Gossen of Aberdeen, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
