SARAH BARTEL

Sarah Bartel was born on a farm northeast of Mountain Lake, Minn. to Heinrich and Katrina (Buller) Bartel on Oct. 2, 1889.

On May 31, 1909 she was baptized upon her confession of faith by the late Elder Gerhard Neufeld and received into the membership of the First Mennonite church of Mountain Lake.

Her early years were spent on the farm. She attended the country school and the public school in Mountain Lake.

She and her mother moved to Mountain Lake in the summer of 1925. Throughout the years she provided loving care for her aged mother. She also worked as a seamstress at Ross Cleaners for many years.

In October 1957 she was hospitalized for several weeks, but was privileged to return to her home. She had been slowly failing in health since that time. She enjoyed the visits of friends and neighbors and they were always welcome in her home.

Her love for the out-of-doors and flowers was evidence by the constant and loving care she gave to her garden.

Early in April 1960 it became evident that her condition was such that hospitalization would be necessary. Here all possible medical care was given to her. She patiently endured her affliction until the afternoon of May 6, 1960, when she passed onto her Heavenly Home, having reached the age of 70 years, seven months, and four days.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1921, her mother in 1937. A brother, David, died in infancy.

She leaves to mourn her going one uncle, Henry Buller, two brothers, Leonard Bartel and wife Ella, and Henry Bartel and wife Bertha, three nephews, two nieces, and many friends and relatives.

We mourn, not as though she is dead, but in the faith that she has gone ahead.

Memorial services were held Monday, May 9, in the First Mennonite church with Rev. Willard Wiebe officiating, assisted by Rev. I. J. Dick and Rev. H. H. Quiring. Interment was made at the Mt. Lake cemetery.
