Death Claims Pastor, Teacher in California
Mt. Lake, Minn. — Word was received here that Rev. John Bartel, 76, of Bakersfield, Calif. died March 21 in a Palo Alto, Calif. hospital.
Funeral services were held March 25 at a Bakersfield mortuary, with ministers of the First United Presbyterian Church officiating.
Rev. Bartel was chaplain of the Order of St. Luke. He was a former member of the board of Kings View Hospital, Reedley, and a charter member of the board of Kern View Hospital, Bakersfield.
A native of Hillsboro, Kan., he attended Bethel College (Kansas) and graduated from the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. He was ordained to the ministry in 1929 and served churches at Madrid, Mt. Lake, and Delft, Minn. and in Shafter, Calif. He also taught at Beatrice, Neb. and Mt. Lake.
