MRS. HILDA BARTEL

Hilda Verna Bartel, daughter of Henry J. and Lena Warkentin, was born July 3, 1918, at Goessel, Kan. She received her elementary training at the Good Hope country school near Goessel, and graduated from Goessel High School in1937. She received Bible training at Hesston College, Hesston, Kan., and at Grace Bible Institute, Omaha, Neb., from which she graduated in 1947.

Hilda made her confession of faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in her early days. On June 9, 1935, Pentecost Sunday, she was baptized on confession of her faith by Rev. P. H. Unruh and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel, Kan.

She was active in Sunday school and Daily Vacation Bible School teaching, and served several years on the Hopi mission field in Arizona.

On Nov. 8, 1953, she was married to Milton O Bartel of Aberdeen, Idaho, to whom she became a cheerful and loving companion sharing with him her joys and sorrows in their seven years together.

As member of First Mennonite Church, Aberdeen, she enjoyed attendance at church services and assisted in Sunday school, Christian Endeavor and mid-week Bible classes, and was a member of the Christian Education Committee at the time of her departure.

About a year ago her health began to fail. She endured her suffering patiently and with a smile, and went to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, March 7, after a ten-day stay at the American Falls Hospital.

Preceding her in death were her mother, who passed away about ten months ago, and an infant daughter, Mathilda. She leaves her husband, Milton; her father, Henry J. Warkentin of Newton, Kan.; her brother, Orlando and family of Moses Lake, Wash., and a host of relatives and friends.
