DESSIE TROYER BANDY

Dessie Troyer Bandy, 96, of Hesston, Kan., died June 1, 2007. She was born May 19, 1911, to Abraham N. and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Zimmerman) Troyer on the family farm northwest of Inman.

She moved to Hesston in 1920 and has lived continuously in Hesston longer than any other resident. She joined Hesston Mennonite Church in 1924 and held the longest continuous membership in this congregation.

She married Murray C. Bandy on Sept. 11, 1940, in Hesston.

She graduated from Hesston Academy and began her career as a switchboard operator and bookkeeper at the Mennonite Hospital in La Junta, Colo. Returning to Hesston, she was employed at Halstead Hospital and Bethel Deaconess Hospital of Newton. She was a bookkeeper at King Motor Co. of Hesston and at the Hesston Mill. She owned and operated the Village Motel in Hesston with her husband, and was the bookkeeper and receptionist at Bandy Realty, also in Hesston. She retired on Jan. 1, 1981.

Survivors include her husband, Murray; a daughter, Sondra Koontz and her husband, Philip, of Newton; a sister-in-law, Nina West of Grand Prairie, Texas; three nieces and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen; a sister, Gertrude Troyer Roupp; two nieces and a nephew.

Memorial services were held at Hesston Mennonite Church. Burial was in Eastlawn Cemetery.
