KLARA BAIER

Klara Baier died July 23. She was born Feb. 5, 1919 to Adolf and Dorothea Kautz in Albota, Bessarabia, Romania. She was baptized as an infant and belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran Confession. She was converted at 16 at a home prayer meeting. She worked as a domestic at age 11. In 1939 the Bessarabian-Germans were brought to Germany and settled on a farm in Wartegau, Poland. They fled to the West when the warfront came closer. She married Ben Baier in 1947. They immigrated to Canada in 1948, settling in Arnold, B.C. They were baptized and joined Arnold MB Church. They moved to Vancouver, joining Vancouver MB Church. They were deacons there and later in Culloden MB Church, Vancouver. She enjoyed hosting friends and family gatherings. They began farming in northern Alberta in 1979. They moved to Clearbrook in 1988, joining King Road MB Church where they again served as deacons. She suffered with osteoporosis and heart failure. Predeceased by 4 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 grandson, she is mourned by Bernhard, son Bernie; daughter Clara Wolff; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters; 1 brother. The funeral was July 29 in King Road MB Church.
