ACCIDENTAL INJURY IS FATAL TO WELL KNOWN RESIDENT OF HALSTEAD COMMUNITY

Deep sorrow was cast over the Halstead community recently when it became known that one of the well-known farmers there had died of accidental gun-shot wounds. The Halstead Independent gives the following detailed report of the funeral services which were held at the Halstead church:

Rev. David C. Wedel officiated at the funeral Tuesday afternoon in the Mennonite church for the late Albert E. Baer who died of accidental gunshot wounds Friday, January 13, while hunting.

Mr. Baer left to hunt rabbits along the river in the afternoon, but when he did not return at night Mrs. Baer became worried and called Sam Stein, a neighbor, who organized a search. Several persons from Halstead aided in the hunt.

The body was found in a brush pile, and it is believed the gun fired accidentally when Mr. Baer was crawling though the brush looking for rabbits.

A quartet composed of Simon Unruh,Jon Friesen, Miss Elfrieda Mueller and Miss Elizabeth Huebert sang, with Ruth Rose accompanist on the piano. Pall bearers were Ed Kamm, Sam Stein, Jacob Mueller, E. D. Miller, F. N. Schowalter and Wm. Hearting.

Albert E. Baer, son of Christian and Katherine Baer was born at Summerfield, St. Clair Co., Ill., Mar. 8, 1874.
