Freak Accident Claims Life of Ontario Youth

New Hamburg, Ont. — A freak accident claimed the life of Dale Peter Baechler, 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Baechler on Oct. 26.

The young man was working for Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lichty of rural New Hamburg, piling fire wood in the basement, when his head caught in a loop of baling twine hanging from a ceiling. The twine had been used to support a cold air duct, which had been removed to give him head room. It is believed that he stumbled with a load of wood, catching his neck in the loop.

He was a Grade 12 student at Waterloo-Oxford School and a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church here. Bishop Henry Yantzi conducted the funeral at the East Zorra Mennonite Church on Oct. 30.

Surviving in addition to the parents are two brothers, two sisters and his maternal grandmother.
