FORMER MONTGOMERY WARD CHAIRMAN DEAD
The colorful career of Sewell L. Avery, 86, big businessman and former Montgomery Ward chairman, came to an end when he died Oct. 31. Avery, an ultra-conservative, staunchly resisted encroachments of both labor and government.
Best remembered episode is when two soldiers carried him out of his headquarters building during his struggle against government control, a picture of which was published in newpapers across the land.
