JACOB E. ANDROES

Jacob E. Androes was born Aug. 22, 1896, in Inman, Kan., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John J. Androes. He was baptized in the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church on June 12, 1919, by Rev. Peter Unruh.

On Sept. 18, 1921 he was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Baergen, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John W. Baergen, in the Hoffnungsau church east of Inman.

They settled in Newton, where he worked in the Newton flour mill. Later they moved to Buhler, where he also worked in a flour mill. Then they moved to Hutchinson, where they lived a short while before selling out and moving to Newport in July of 1947.

In 1948 he received his letter from the Buhler Mennonite church to join the Spring Valley Mennonite church and attended regularly until his health began to fail.

On Sept. 30, 1957 he suffered a light stroke. He then retired from his work at the Cusick Diamond National mill. On May 4, 1960 he had another stroke and a third on May 13.

For 38 years and eight months he shared with his wife the many joys and sorrows of married life.

He departed from this life on May 15, 1960, at 3:15 a.m. and is now dwelling in the presence of his Saviour.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Katherine Androes, of Newport, three daughters, Mrs. Leona Chestnut of Great Bend, Kan., Mrs. Verna Guilbeau of Dallas, Ore., and Mrs. Clara Adkins of Priest River, Idaho; six sons, Paul of Bellingham, Arnold of Dallas, Jacob, of Seattle, Norman of Libby, Mont., Eldo and Milton of Spokane; one brother, Herman P. Androes of Sedgwick, Kan; two sisters, Sister Lena Androes and Miss Anna Androes both of Newton, 20 grandchildren and many relatives and friends.
