Truckload of Migrants Collides With Car

TWO MIGRANT WORKERS ARE KILLED, YOUNG MOTHER BADLY HURT

Goshen, Ind. — A truck carrying 17 migrant farm workers collided with a car driven by Samuel Graber at a country intersection northeast of White Pigeon, Mich. on July 22, resulting in the deaths of two workers and serious injury to Mrs. Graber.

Instantly killed were Jose Almeida and his five-year-old daughter, who were riding in the cab of the truck. Fifteen others riding on the back of the truck were thrown off and a number injured.

Mrs. Graver, the former Adeline Kauffman was admitted to the Sturgis, Mich., hospital where she gave birth to a stillborn son a short time later. She suffered a fractured pelvic bone, fractured ribs and head injuries, and her condition was described as serious.

Mr. Graber was also hospitalized with multiple cuts and bruises but was later released. Their home is at Middlebury.

Graveside services for the stillborn Graber child were held July 24 at the Miller Cemetery near Middlebury, with Rev. Orie Kauffman of the Riverview Mennonite Church officiating. Surviving in addition to the parents are a sister Karen Sue, 7, and a brother Lawrence Dale, 3; and the grandmother, Mrs. Abe Graber and Mrs. David Kauffman of the Middlebury community.
