MRS. CAROLYN ZUERCHER

Caroline Welty Zuercher was born to Christian and Anna Boegli Welty at the family home in Wayne county, near Orrville, Ohio on October 3, 1868.

She was the youngest child of a family of seven children. In August of the year 1858, diphtheria brought death to her two brothers, Joshua and Caleb, and one sister, Sara. Her sister Dinah (the late Mrs. Dan Garber) survived the disease. When Sarah (now Mrs. Sarah Shumaker Reeser) and Fanny, who who [sic] died in 1927, were born, a strong family friendship of four sisters was formed.

At the age of 16 she expressed her allegiance to her Lord and united with the Sonnenberg Mennonite church by water baptism with Bishop Jacob Nussbaum officiating.

She chose the month of her birth, October, the 27th day, in 1902 for her marriage to Jacob D. Zuercher from Berne, Indiana. Their joys were increased with the birth of their one child, a son Ivan on September 1, 1909.

In her eighty-second year, she was called upon by her Lord and Master to witness for Him in patient bodily suffering for many months. She was released for her reward and rest in glory on June 29, 1951.

After her long life she is survived by her loving and grieving husband; her son and his wife; three grandchildren; one sister Sarah, who in her 89th year was unable because of bodily infirmities to attend the funeral, and many nephews and nieces whom she loved.

She was a true and living helpmeet to her husband, sharing joys and sorrows at the family homestead. Her concern and loving care of her son and his three children, Linda, Paul and Carol Lynn, will always be gratefully felt. Her prayers and presence will be keenly missed.

The neighbors will miss her ready and kindly helpfulness; the Kidron church of which she was a member since the church was established, will miss a faithful attendant and cheerful giver. She was always sympathetically moved by any need and gave of her time and means freely where the need presented itself.

Her quiet disposition, her kindly spirit, and her simple faith and trust in God were a silent but effective witness of true Christian living.

Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were from Wooster, Rittman, Canton, Massillon, and Orrville.

Paul [sic] bearers were their neighbors Grover Gerber, Noah Lehman, Simon Nussbaum, Lester Amstutz, Adam Geiger and Clarence Orr. Services were in charge of Rev. Isaac Zuercher at the home, and at the Kidron church by Rev. Reuben Hofstetter and Rev. Allen Bixler. Singers were Mr. and Mrs. George Amstutz and Mr. and Mrs. Vilas Zuercher who sang two appropriate German hymns and some English hymns. Burial was at the church cemetery.
