AGED MEMBER OF OHIO CONGREGATION DIED AT NINETY-FIVE

West Liberty Ohio. — Funeral services (for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Allgyer Zook were held at the Oak Grove Mennonite church here Nov. 21. She passed away at the home here where she had lived for 77 years. She was 95 years old.

MRS. ELIZABETH ZOOK

Sara Elizabeth Zook was born in Granville, Pa., near Mattawana, on March 9, 1857, to Joseph and Barbara Zook Allgyer, and departed this life in West Liberty, Ohio on Nov. 19, 1952, at the age of 95 years, eight months and 10 days.

Early in life she united with the Mennonite church and remained loyal to her faith unto the end. She found much joy and comfort in attending church services and when health permitted, her place was seldom vacant.

In 1874 the family moved to Wayne county, Ohio, and one year later, in 1875, they came to live in Champaign county near West Liberty, Ohio.

On Jan. 24, 1878, she was united in marriage to Joseph E. Zook who preceded her in death 21 years ago. Four children were born to this union: Alpha, Cora, Elsie Mae and Amy. Elsie Mae died in infancy and Cora preceded her mother in death just two years ago.

Mother was a very industrious hard working woman. Through prosperity and adversity, through joys and sorrows, through sickness and death, she filled her place as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She experienced much sickness during her life, always bearing it patiently and uncomplaining, and always appreciating all that anyone did for her. During her later years, she spent many lonely hours in her home. Especially did she sense this after the death of Cora, who was so close to her. Even though she felt she couldn’t do much still she filled her place in her chair as a faithful and praying Christian to the end of her life.

Her home will be lonely now, her smiling face will be seen no more at the window to welcome the homecoming of those she loved. We may think of her now over there standing in the windows of heaven, awaiting our coming.

She leaves to mourn her departure one son, Alpha, of Butler, Indiana; one daughter, Amy, of the home; one brother, Bro. Sam Allgyer; four grandchildren, Mrs. Elizabeth Mavis and Paul Zook, both of Auburn, Ind., Richard and Joe Thoman of West Liberty, Ohio; also five great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
