ROY ALLEN ZOOK
Roy Allen Zook, son of John M. and Selina [sic Salina] (King) Zook, was born at Garden City, Mo., on Oct. 4, 1883. On April 16, 1964 he was suddenly called to be with the Lord whom he loved and served. His time on earth was 80 years, six months and 12 days.
When 15 years old he with his parents moved to McPherson County, Kansas.
He was married to Selina Mary Zook on Dec. 27, 1908. This happy union continued for more than 55 years. To this marriage were born 10 children. Surviving are his wife; six children, Esther, Mrs. Estel V. Bruce of Holton, Kan., Estella, Mrs. Albert Kieffaber of De Soto, Kan., Elvera, Mrs. Earl A. Berkey of Convington [sic Covington], La., Eldora, Mrs. Marion W. Hartzler, George R. and Luke L.; three daughters-in-law, Dorothy (Stoll) Zook, Madrine (Marner) Zook, and Irene (Gerber) Zook; 43 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Shelly Miller; three brothers, Aaron, Paul, and John; one step-sister, Mrs. Fred Drier; three step-brothers, Chris Chancy, and Levi Kauffman.
Four children, Mathias, Edna, John Mark, and Roy A., Jr. as well as three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
He lived in both McPherson County and Harper County, Kan. He moved to Alberta, Canada in 1918 where six of the children were born, returning to McPherson County in 1936.
He was baptized into the Mennonite Church at the age of 15 by Andrew Shenk of Morgan County, Mo.
In 1937 he was ordained to the office of deacon and served the church in this capacity for 25 years. He was a kind neighbor and was respected by all. All through the years he enjoyed reading his Bible.
The last couple of weeks before his passing he became very tired but was active to the last.
Funeral servics were conducted at the Argentine Mennonite Church on April 21, i n charge of Glen Yoder, Rufus Horst and Joe G. Hartzler. Interment was made in Maple Hill Cemetery.
