MARGARET COLLEEN YOUNG
Margaret Colleen Young and her daughter Danielle Leanne of Newton, Man. were killed in an automobile accident Jan. 22. Margaret was born Mar. 31, 1955 to Bob and Asta Smart in Winnipeg. She was raised in several Manitoba communities, including Vita and Grand Marais. The family moved to Portage la Prairie, Man., where she graduated from Portage Collegiate Institute in 1972. She married Darryl Young in 1972. They lived in Winnipeg, where she worked for Manitoba Hydro. They moved to Regina, Sask. in 1979, to Portage la Prairie in 1980 and to Newton in 1983. In 1982 she was baptized and joined Newton Community Fellowship Church. She enjoyed children and was active in the church mid-week program. She served as a volunteer at Oakville Elementary School and helped with Portage la Prairie Youth For Christ. She is remembered as a caring friend and loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Danielle was born June 1, 1982 and was in grade 3 at Oakville Elementary School. She enjoyed skating, playing with friends, building snow forts, bike riding, drawing, helping her mother in the kitchen, Sunday school and the midweek program at church. She had accepted Jesus. Margaret and Danielle are mourned by Margaret's husband Darryl; son Ryan; parents; 1 sister and 1 brother; mother-in-law Nita Mae and stepfather-in-law Gerry Saumere of Winnipeg; father-in-law Murray Young of High Bluff, Man.; and grandmother Edith Hunter of Portage la Prairie. The funeral was Jan. 26 in Newton Community Fellowship Church, with Art Willms and Terry Leblanc ministering.
