Slain While Driving Taxi in South Bend

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services were held at the North Main Street Mennonite Church in Nappanee the morning of Jan. 17 for Floyd E. Yoder, 31, who met instant death Jan. 13 while driving a taxi in South Bend.

Mr. Yoder, who worked evenings driving a taxi for the Indian Cab Co., was dispatched on a call and a few minutes later was shot in the back of the head with a shotgun by someone in the back seat. The cab continued for about a block and struck several parked cars before coming to a stop.

South Bend police said the apparent motive for the shooting was robbery.

Mr. Yoder, who was not married, lived alone in a mobile home in Wakarusa. He was also employed at Steam-Matic Co. in Nappanee. He was a member of the North Main St. Church and Men for Missions.

Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey J. Yoder of rural Etna Green, seven brothers and three sisters.
