Former Central Dist. Church Leader Dies

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Rev. Allen Yoder Sr., 94, long-time leader in the Central Conference of Mennonites, were conducted Sept. 6 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home here. Rev. Jacob Mierau, pastor of Silver Street Mennonite Church, and Rev. A. E. Kreider officiated.

Rev. Yoder died Sept. 3 at Memorial Hospital in Sturgis, Mich. where he had been admitted several days earlier from the Froh Brothers Community Home in Sturgis.

Rev. Yoder was a former president and field secretary of the Central Conference of Mennonites, now the Central District of the General Conference Mennonite Church. He was formerly a member of the Mennonite Central Committee and was one of eight men to sign the MCCs articles of incorporation in 1937. He served on the Congo Inland Mission Board for 30 years.

A native of the Goshen community, Rev. Yoder was a charter member of the Silver Street Mennonite Church and was ordained to the ministry there in 1913. He continued as pastor of the church until 193t5 when his son, Rev. Harry Yoder, was ordained and installed as pastor.

Survivors include seven sons, one daughter, 39 grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
