Kansas Farm Youth Drowns When Tractor Overturns in Creek
Hutchinson, Kan. — Ray Oliver Yoder, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Yoder of Route 4, Hutchinson, drowned on Aug. 3 when the tractor he was driving overturned in Cow Creek.
The grandfather, M. B. Yoder, said the youth left the farm home southeast of Hutchinson at about 10 a.m. to do some plowing. When he failed to return for lunch, Mr. Yoder went on a search and found the overturned tractor.
Reno County firemen righted the tractor, and the youth was still on the seat. Apparently he was driving along the creek when the left front tire hit a washout, causing the tractor to topple into the stream.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Yoder Mennonite Church, of which the youth was a member, with Edward J. Yutzy officiating.
Surviving in addition to the parents are two brothers and one sister, all of the home, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Yoder and Oliver J. Troyer of Yoder.
