Native of Iowa Dies at Age 91

Wellman, Iowa. — Mrs. Matilda Yoder, a native of Iowa County, Iowa, died Sept. 10 in Iowa city at the age of 91. Funeral services were conducted at the West Union Mennonite Church near here.

Mrs. Yoder, the former Matilda Fisher, had been blind since 1956, but remained active until February 1957, when she fell and fractured her hip. She resided with a daughter, Mrs. Blanche King, in Iowa city, who survives with a son, Omer Yoder, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Yoder had been a member of the Mennonite (Old) Church since her youth.

MATILDA FISHER YODER

Matilda Fisher Yoder, daughter of Samuel and Sarah Slabaugh Fisher, was born April 4, 1867, in Iowa County, Iowa; passed away at her home on Sept. 10, 1958, age 91 years, five months and six days.

She was united in marriage to William G. Yoder on Nov. 15, 1888, by Christian Warye. The couple established their home on a farm in Iowa County, later moving to Johnson County. Her husband preceded her in death March 29, 1924.

She was a faithful member of the Iowa City Mennonite Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Blanche E. King, with whom she made her home from 1924 until 1941, when she moved to 1025 Walnut St., Iowa City; one son, Omer J. Yoder of Wellman, Iowa; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, (Lizzie) Mrs. Sam D. Miller and (Ida) Mrs. C. D. Miller of Wellman; and two brothers, Sam of Wellman and Jake of South English, Iowa.

In 1956 she lost her eyesight, but was regular in attendance at church services until Feb. 11, 1957, when she became bedfast upon fracturing her hip.

She was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church from her youth and a devout believer in the Lord.

Funeral services were held at the West Union Mennonite Church, Parnell, Iowa on Friday, Sept. 12, at 3:00 p. m. with Rev. Virgil J. Brenneman, pastor of the Iowa City Mennonite Church, officiating. Burial was made at the West union Cemetery.
