OLDEST RESIDENT CALLED AWAY IN DEATH AT WEST LIBERTY, OHIO
West Liberty, Ohio. — One year less than a century was the record achieved by Mrs. Gertrude Yoder, 99, who died at her home here Sunday morning, July 16. She was the community’s oldest resident, and perhaps the oldest in Logan county.
Grandmother Yoder, as she was popularly called, was a member of the Bethel Mennonite church, where also the funeral services were held July 19. The officiating ministers were Rev. Nelson Kanegy, Rev. Newton Weber and Rev. Robert Wearly.
Until a few months ago, Grandmother Yoder was able to be up and around and spent much of her time in quilting. She was born in Lawrence county, Pa. July 10, 1851, the daughter of Eli and Esther Byler. Her husband, Gideon C. Yoder, whom she married in 1874, died in 1902.
