DEATH CASTS DEEP SHADOW OVER COMMENCEMENT AT ALLENSVILLE, PA.

Belleville, Pa. — Gloom was cast over the commencement exercises of the Allensville high school when George Yoder, a member of the senior class died the day before his anticipated graduation.

While going home from school on his bicycle, Wednesday afternoon at 3:00, May 24, he turned his wheel into the path of a truck which hit it, injuring the rider so seriously that death resulted the following day at 12:45 P. M.

George would have received his diploma from the Allensville high school at the commencement exercises which were planned for Friday evening, may 26. l His sad and sudden death cast such a gloom over the entire community that the commencement program was postponed.

He was on the program for an oration the subject of which was "Kishacoquillas History", but there was no response when his turn came save the tears and emotions of teachers, class mates, fellow students and friends.

The accident occurred in Allensville on the William Penn highway, only a few feet from the spot where his grandfather, George Yoder, was hit by an automobile and killed, September 1934. In March, 1939, Henry Yoder, aged seven, a cousin of George was hit by a motorcycle and killed while on his way home from school. That accident happened along the William Penn highway about three miles west of Allensville. The Yoder family certainly has had its share of tragedy.

George was seventeen years old, the son of Mr. and Mrs. I. Newton Yoder who reside on a farm between Allensville and Mill Creek.

George is survived by his parents and four brothers, Roy, Paul, James and Robert, and one sister, Rena, who have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.

Funeral services were held at the boy's late home Sunday, May 28, one o'clock P. M. and at the Allensville Mennonite church at 2 P. M. conducted by Rev. Aaron Mast and Rev. Eli Zook. Burial was in the Allensville Mennonite cemetery near the church. The casket carriers were members of the graduating class to which George belonged. — Belleville Times.
