ELIZABETH G. G. YODER

Elizabeth Gingerich Gish Yoder was born Feb. 5, 1897, in Elizabethtown, Pa., and died March 20, 1989, in Hesston, Kan. She was the daughter of Eli N. and Lizzie Gingerich Gish.

In 1910 she moved with her parents to Millersville, Pa. In her youth she joined the Millersville Mennonite Church.

After graduation from Millersville Normal School in 1917 she taught school in Pennsylvania and at Eastern Mennonite School, Harrisonburg, Va. In 1927 she graduated from Goshen (Ind.) College, where she met Maurice A. Yoder, whom she married Aug. 30, 1928, at Eden West, Pa., after teaching for a year at EMS. They moved to Hesston, Kan., where he was on the faculty of Hesston College.

She also taught at Hesston College and later was a tutor, especially helping international students at the college. She was active in Hesston Mennonite Church as a Sunday school teacher and as a leader in the Women's Missionary and Service Commission group.

She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie (Mrs. Joseph) Stoltzfus of Sierra Madre, Calif., and Doreen (Mrs. William E.) Miller of Albuquerque, N. M.; two sisters, Ida Gish Lehman of Lancaster, Pa., and Viola Gish Huber of Lititz, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; a son, Gerald, in infancy; a brother, Warren; a sister, Rosa; and a grand-daughter, Maureen Beth Miller.
