AGED INDIANA FARMER SUFFERS FATAL BURNS IN LEAF FIRE
Goshen, Ind. — Eli S. Yoder, 74, of five miles northwest of Middlebury, died at Elkhart General hospital Oct. 22 from severe burns suffered the afternoon before when he fell into a pile of leaves which he was burning near his home.
He suffered second and third degree burns from the waist down when his cries for help went unanswered, and he was unable to get up. He was found still conscious by his wife Savilla and daughter, Mrs. Laura Miller, when they returned home from Constantine, Mich. about an hour and a half later.
Funeral services were conducted at the David Mast home east of Middlebury on Oct. 25, Chris Miller and Albert Graber of the Amish church in charge. The widow, four sons, five daughters and a number of grandchildren survive.
