DAVID J. YODER

David J. Yoder, son of Jeremiah D. and Elizabeth (Christner) Yoder, was born in Middlebury, Ind. on Feb. 26, 1880. He passed away at his home in Hutchinson, Kan. on July 28, 1970, age 90 years, five months and two days. His funeral was held at the Yoder Mennonite Church on July 31, 1970. His six grandsons were pallbearers. Sanford King, Gideon Yoder and Calvin King conducted the services. He was buried in the adjoining cemetery.

He had moved with his parents from Indiana when he was 12 years old. They settled in the Yoder community, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Mary Lucinda Kauffman, known in the community as Sade or Sadie. To them were born four daughters and three sons. His first wife died in 1947. He was married to Mrs. Kate Ramer of Crystal Springs, Kan. on May 12, 1949. She survives with two daughters, Elizabeth Yoder and Ida Miller; two sons, Henry and Levi; one sister, Mrs. Susie Headings; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Ruth and Barbara, and one son, Reuben.

At the time of his death he was a member of the Pershing Street Mennonite Church in Hutchinson.

In his active years he lived and farmed in the Yoder community. He enjoyed working with God's nature, the earth, and especially liked and worked with trees. His main projects as a farmer were wheat and dairying.

He was a charter member of the Yoder Mennonite Church. He endeavored to raise his family according to Scriptural principles, even though sometimes imperfectly. During his last months when he could no longer work outdoors, he spent most of his time reading God's Word.
