Tragedy, Accidents In Amish Settlements

Accidents have again taken their toll of dead and injured in Amish communities in various parts of the country.

Near Sugarcreek, Ohio, the infant son and only child of Mr. and Mrs. Aden A. E. Yoder perished Oct. 12 as flames enveloped the young couple's farm house while they were in the barn doing the evening chores. It is believed a kerosene stove exploded, causing the fire. The little boy, Andrew A. , was born May 30, 1965.

At Conewango Valley, N. Y, 28-year-old Andrew Yoder was fatilly [sic] injured Oct. 7 in a fall from the second floor of a barn. He died in the ambulance en route to the hospital. Survivors include his widow and one son.

The Tobias Salbaugh [sic Slabaugh] family of rural Etna Green, Ind., including the parents and seven children, were fortunate to escape serious injury in a highway accident south of Nappanee, Ind. All were thrown from their horse-drawn surrey when it was hit from behind by an auto, which was then sideswiped by a second car. One of the Slabaugh sons, four years old was hospitalized.
