Father of Seven Dies In Flaming Truck Cab On Virginia Highway
Rustburg, Va. — Thirty-nine year-old Alva Yoder, father of seven small children, died recently when the truck he was driving near Lynchburg, Va. was involved in a head-on collision and caught fire. He was burned beyond recognition.
Ernest Yoder, his companion and owner of the truck, was thrown from the cab. His clothing caught fire, but the flames were extinguished by passers-by. He suffered a broken hip and chest injuries.
An 18-year-old youth, driver of the car which collided with the truck, also was killed. The two men were returning from the Norfolk, Va. region with a corn picker.
Funeral services for Alva Yoder were held at the Bethel Conservative Mennonite Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Iva Maust, the seven children, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Yoder of Grantsville, Md.
