Field Accident Fatal To Kansas Farmer

Hillsboro, Kan. — Funeral services were conducted at the Ebenfeld M. B. Church near here Sept. 21 for Orlen C. Wohlgemuth, 46, well-known farmer of the Ebenfeld community who was fatally injured in a farm accident Sept. 17.

Mr. Wohlgemuth was working on the Wilbur Handyman farm east of Peabody when his arm was caught in a field cutter. After being extricated from the machine by Mr. Hanneman, he was rushed to the Bethesda Hospital at Goessel where he died shortly after being admitted.

Mr. Wohlegemuth was a graduate of the Tabor Academy and attended Tabor College for two years. He was an active member of the Ebenfeld Church, where he was a deacon, secretary of the church council, youth sponsor, and assistant teacher.

Survivors include his widow; their two children, John, 17, and Jane, 14; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Wohlgemuth of Peabody.

Orlen C. Wohlgemuth, son of John R. and Helen (Suderman) Wohlgemuth, was born near Aulne, Kan. on April 4, 1919. When he was seven years old his mother died. Father later was married to Lena Schmidt. She has been a loving and faithful mother to him. At the age of 14, Orlen accepted Christ as Saviour and Master. On June 3, 1934, he was baptized upon confession of this faith and received into the membership of the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church.

His formal education consisted of two years at Peabody High School, graduation from Tabor College Academy, and two years of college at Tabor College. He was a lifelong student of the Bible, and has been a Sunday school teacher for many years.

On June 15, 1944, Orlen was united in marriage to Luella Lohrenz. God gave us two children: John Richard and Jane Louise. We chose farming as our occupation and have experienced God's blessing in it. We will remember Orlen as a loving husband and wonderful dad. His children were precious to him. His companionship has been one of mutual joy for 21 years.

Orlen was wholeheartedly involved in church activity and witness. He sang in the church male chorus for approximately 30 years, often serving as speaker at the extetnsion [sic] programs of the chorus. At the time of his death he served as deacon, secretary of the church council, youth sponsor, and assistant teacher.

Orlen was installed as one of the deacons of the church three years ago. He accepted this responsibility as a call of God and was very conscious of Holy Spirit direction in this ministry. His faithful visits to the sick, and others who had a need, will be greatly missed. His interest and understanding of young people made an effective contribution to their lives. His positive convictions combined with a cheerful personality won the confidence and friendship of the whole community.

On Sept. 17, 1965, Orlen was suddenly taken from us by a farm accident. He reached the age of 46 years and five months.

In the temporary separation of this earth he leaves his wife, Luella; two children, John, 17, and Jane, 14; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Wohlgemuth, Peabody, Kan.; one sister, Mary Alice and husband Herbert Hildebrandt of Olathe, Kan.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ann Lohrenz, Peabody, Kan.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Theists of Meade, Kan., Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ginn of Wichita, Kan., Mr. and Mrs. Leander Lohrenz of Lawrence, Kan., Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Goentzel of Silvia, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Rempel, Peabody, Kan.; 11 nephews and nieces; relatives and many friends.
