Peter B. Wohlgemuth

Peter B. Wohlgemuth was born January 31, 1880 two miles south of Hillsboro, on a farm where he was reared. In the year 1900, his parents moved to Hillsboro wher he sought work among the farmers. Later on he learned the barber trade, and for many years he was a barber in Hillsboro, where he made many friends. He followed this trade up to the end.

In 1909, January 2nd, he was united in marriage with Marie Reissig. This happy union lasted only eight months when she departed this life. In 1911, August 24th, he was united in marriage to Caroline Hett. His wife being of poor health, they tried many different localities in trying to improve her health. He was ever a tender and sympathetic husband, being at all times attentive to his wife.

In 1912, he received Christian baptism on his belief, and joined the Evangelical church of Tampa, where they lived at that time.

In 1927, July 18th, he was struck by a taxicab in Kansas City, from which he suffered a longtime with a fractured skull. He was in the hospital for about three months, and during the first five weeks he lay unconscious. Then he was brought to his father-in-law's farm for recuperation and remained disabled until the following January. He then returned to his work. He took sick July 13th, with the summer flu and pneumonia, and was taken to the hospital. In spite of all that could be done for him recovery was not possible. He departed this life July 17th, at 10:45 p. m., in the hospital at Garden City, his wife being at his bedside during his illness. He pleaded and begged so hard for relief; his heart seemed full of hope. "Do not worry. I will be better in a few days." Lloyd Hett, her brother, was also at his bedside, and when he bid him goodbye, at about six o'clock he said, "I will be all right."

The funeral service was held in the M. B. Church of Hillsboro, on Sunday, July 21 at 2 p. m. conducted by Rev. Nickel, Rev. Gray and Rev. Moyer. Interment was made in the Hillsboro cemetery. — Hillsboro Star.
