MRS. JOSEPHINE WITTRIG

Josephine Lund Wittrig was born May 29, 1859, to August and Barbara King Lund, near Hopedale, Ill., and passed away at her home in Beemer, Neb. [sic phrase duplicated in original] Dec. 24, 1949, at the age of 90 years, six months and 27 days.

In her girlhood she moved with her family to Decatur county, Kans. She united with the Mennonite church in her youth in which faith she died.

April 13, 1889, she was united in marriage to Jacob Wittrig with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of life for nearly 42 years.

In 1901 she came with her husband to Cuming county, Nebr., in a covered wagon and lived on a farm northeast of Beemer until 1919, when they retired to their home in Beemer. On April 4, 1931, her husband passed away.

She leaves to mourn her death her four children, David and Edward of Beemer, Anna at home, and Lydia, Mrs. Edward Stutzman, Broken Bow, Neb., 19 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Caroline Birky, Tangent, Ore.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Lund, Portland, Ore., and a host of relatives and friends.

Grandma Wittrig, as she was known in Beemer, was a woman of great faith in God. She was a great lover of hospitality and a friend to all. Friends and neighbors of all faiths loved to visit in her home and they were always welcome. Her life came to an end peacefully; she just fell asleep. She was conscious almost to the end and so ended a life which endured much suffering and pain in her 90 years on earth and also a life of many blessings, joys and happiness.

Funeral services were conducted from the home by P. O. Oswald and at the Mennonite church in charge of Sam Oswald of the home congregation and Wm. R. Eicher, Milford, Neb. Interment was in Beemer cemetery.
