MRS. IVA WITTMER

Ira [sic Iva] (Wittrig) Wittmer, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Wittrig, was born at Minier, Illinois on December 19, 1890, and passed away at her home at Havre, R. 1, near Washington, Iowa on May 16, 1951, at the aged [sic] of 60 years, four months and 28 days. Mrs. Wittmer had been in failing health for several years and suffered stroke about two weeks previous to her passing.

At an early age she moved with her parents to Iowa on a farm near Crawfordsville. While living there she united with the Presbyterian church. Later upon moving to the Noble community she transferred her membership to the Eicher Emmanuel Mennonite church where she remained a member for the rest of her life. The church was one of her main interests in life and she served it as a teacher and pianist for many years as well as being a regular attendant at services as long as her health permitted.

On January 19, 1913, she and Samuel C. Wittmer were united in marriage by their pastor, Rev. S. M. Musselman. To this union was born four sons.

She is survived by her husband, four sons, Willis P. of Renwick, Iowa, Virgil D. of Washington, Dwight D. of Quincy, Ill., Sam C. of Des Moines, Iowa, and nine grandchildren. Two of her brothers, Howard and Vernon Wittrig of Washington, Ia. also surivive [sic]. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Arthur.

Mrs. Wittmer’s chief interests in life were her church, home, family and friends. She never was happier than when her husband and herself were surrounded by their children and grandchildren. No one ever brought a perplexing problem to her without being met with love and understanding. She loved doing good for others. The influence of her Christian life permeates the community and will live on as a shining monument to her memory.

Funeral services were conducted by one of her former pastors. Rev. Delbert E. Welty, now at Tribune, Kansas, assisted by the local pastor, Rev. L. D. Fast. Mrs. Fast sang “How Sweet is the Love of Jesus" and “Beyond the Sunset,” accompanied by John Yousling of the Sorden Music Co. on the organ. Nephews of the deceased served as pall bearers with interment in the Eicher cemetery.
