ABRAHAM K. WILLEMS
Abraham Kornelius Willems, son of Kornelius and Maria Martens Willems, was born May 13, 1894, at Inman, Kan. and spent his entire life in this community. He attended Blaze Fork School.
On June 20, 1937, he was baptized on confession of his faith and united with the Free Methodist Church of McPherson at Vashel Chapel.
On Oct. 22, 1923, he was united in marriage to Katharina Toews. Six children were born to this union. One son, Charles Dwight, preceded him in death in infancy. His wife passed away June 12, 1938, after almost 15 years of devoted companionship. One sister, Mrs. Arthur (Anna) Hanke, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Willems had been in failing health for several years. He entered his heavenly rest on June 18 at 10 p.m. at his home in Turkey Creek Community.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Johnen of McPherson; five sons, Abrahm and Franklin of McPherson, Oscar of Parsons, Kan., LaVerne of Inman, Kan. and Lee, serving in the U. S. Army in San Diego, Calif.; five brothers, Cornelius and Aaron of Inman, John of Colby, Henry of McPherson, Jake of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. George F. (Mary) Friesen of Bellaire, Texas and Mrs. Katie Nickel of Hillsboro, Kan.; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 23, at 2:30 p.m.at the Free Methodist Church in McPherson with Rev. R. R. Chapel and C. Mervin Russel in charge. the Inman Mennonite Church Male Quartet — C. C. Wiens, Elmer Wiens, Menno Wiens and Ed Wiens — accompanied at the piano by Val Davis Franz sang "Going Down the Valley," "The Love of God," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "Resting Now." Organist was Mrs. Lillian Schaub. Interment was made in North Inman cemetery by the side of his beloved wife. — The Family.
