HENRY P. WIENS

Henry P. Wiens, the seventh of nine children, was born to Peter J. A. and Maria Duerksen Wiens on Feb. 1, 1905 at Mountain Lake, Minn. When but a mere lad, he migrated with his parents to South Dakota, where he grew up on a farm in the Marion vicinity.

His education did not exceed the elementary grades. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour in early manhood, was baptized by Elder Derk P. Tieszen and received into the Bethesda Mennonite Church of Marion, S.D. where he continued as an active member until his death. Some time later at a revival meeting he reconsecrated his life to the Lord.

He served as a member of the church board more than nine years. He also served as a member of the board of directors of the Tieszen Home for the Aged almost 14 years.

On May 20, 1926, he was married to Elizabeth P. Tieszen. The Lord blessed this marriage with three daughters: Gladys, Orpha and Irene.

After marriage they settled on the parental Dr. and Mrs. Peter D. Tieszen homestead farm four miles west of Marion, and resided there until eight days before his death, when they moved into their recently purchased home in Marion. He enjoyed his occupation as a farmer.

In September 1965 he underwent surgery in Sioux Valley Hospital, from which he recovered very well. In early February 1968, while spending the winter in Phoenix, Ariz. he became ill and was advised by the doctor that he had cancer of the bone. Immediate arrangements were made to return home. He was confined to his bed at home for six weeks and three days, and then transferred to the Tieszen Home. After seven and one-half months of suffering, he was peacefully and gloriously transferred to that Home eternal in the heaves on Sept. 24, 1968. His span of life covered 63 years, seven months, and 23 days.

We shared life's joys and disappointments for 42 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Peter and John, also one brother and one sister in infancy. His death is mourned by his wife Elizabeth; three daughters, Gladys of Northfield, Ill., Orpha and husband John Laurie of Niles, Ill., Irene and husband Paul Olson of Scottdale, Ariz.; two grandsons; two brothers, Jake of Minneapolis, Minn. and Abe of Marion; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Dick and Mrs. Frank (Lena) Goosen [sic Goossen], both of Marion; six brothers-in-law; ten sisters-in-law, and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. — The Bereaved Family.
