● Rudi P. Wiens, 63, a long-time foreign director for the International YMCA, died unexpectedly Sunday forenoon while attending a family reunion near Andover in Butler County. Mr. Wiens was on a walk with his wife and sister-in-law when he suddenly collapsed and died. For the past 20 years he had been stationed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Having completed his assignment there, he and his wife returned to the U.S. in early July and visited their children in California before coming to Kansas on July 28. Mr. Wiens was scheduled to leave for a short-term assignment in Israel in September. Funeral services were held Wednesday forenoon at the Bethel College Church of which he had been a member since 1925. Rev. Esko Loewen and Dr. D. C. Wedel officiated. Surviving in addition to the widow, Cleo, are two daughters, Mrs. Charles Addington of Santa Maria, Calif. and Mrs. David Cruse of Grand Junction, Colo.; one son, Rudolf Harlan of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Emery Bailey of Upland, Calif., Mrs. Dan J. Epp and Mrs. Galen Koehn, both of North Newton; and one brother, Ferdinand J. Wiens of Woodburn, Ore.
