MARTIN WIENS

Martin Wiens, son of Dr. J. H. and Kathriena [sic Katherina] Duerksen Wiens, was born on March 26, 1891, west of Inman, Kan. After completion of Catechism instruction, he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized upon confession of faith on July 10, 1910 by Elder Heinrich Toews. He remained a faithful member of the Bethel Mennonite Church at Inman until his death on Jan. 22, 1964.

On May 6, 1915 he was united in marriage with Nettie Vogt, with whom he shared life's joys and sorrows for almost 49 years. Two of the highlights of this marriage were the celebration of their 40th and 45th anniversaries. This marriage was blessed with three daughters and one son.

He loved the soil and was engaged in farming west of Inman. He was in relatively good health until September of 1962, when his health began to fail rapidly. He was confined to his home the last five months of his life. He reached the age of 72 years, nine months, and 27 days.

He is survived by his bereaved wife, Nettie; three daughters, Hilda and husband Bert C. Wiens of Hutchinson, Kathrien [sic Katharina] and husband Rev. Garman Wedel of Moundridge, Anna Grace and husband Virgil Flickinger of Inman; one son, Ervin and wife Betty of Fresno, Calif.; (Maria) Mrs. Dierich [sic Dietrich] Friesen, (Lena) Mrs. P. T. Neufeld, Anna, Elizabeth, (Justina) Mrs. Jake Pauls, and their families, all of Inman; (Margaret) Mrs. Abe Ratzlaff and family of Buhler; (Susan) Mrs. Aaron Toews and family of Nickerson. His parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held in the Bethel Church at Inman on Jan. 25, in charge of the pastor, Rev. P. A. Wedel. Interment was in the South Inman cemetery. — The Family.
