MRS. JACOB L. WIENS

Mrs. Lena Wiens was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob J. Penner on Dec. 21, 1890, at Hillsboro, Kan. She grew up in the Ebenfeld community near Hillsboro where she attended the elementary schools and the Mennonite Church. She confessed the Lord as her personal Saviour and was baptized and received into the Ebenfeld M. B. Church on April 16, 1906.

Mother was married to Jacob L. Wiens on Feb. 1, 1912 in the Ebenfeld community. They first took up farming in the Ebenfeld community and then moved to Collinsville, Okla. where they resided for about ten years. From 1923 to 1948 they made their home in Hillsboro. In order to find a better climate for mother's health, they moved to Reedley, Calif. in 1948 and resided there since. The Lord blessed this home with one son and five daughters.

They were privileged to commemorate their golden wedding anniversary in 1962. Last summer mother and father moved into the Reedley Home for the Aged. Although mother was afflicted with physical limitations throughout her life, she sought to bear these burdens bravely. On Sept. 23 she suffered a severe stroke and at 5 o'clock on the morning of Oct. 29 she passed away. Death was due to pneumonia. In our memories will always linger the cherished love, prayers and understanding of a Christian mother.

One daughter, Esther, died in infancy and a daughter, Florence, passed away at the age of 37 in 1959. Also four of mother's sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Among the close survivors are her husband, Jacob L. Wiens, at the home for aged in Reedley; one son, Menno and wife Linda, of Mountain Lake, Minn.; three daughters, Gladys and husband Franklin Toews of Warden, Wash., LaVina and husband Joyce Bersuch of Long Beach, Calif., and Edythe and husband Vernon Karber of Warden, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. P. L. Loewen and Mrs. J. P. Nikkel, both of Hillsboro, Kan.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. Waldo Hiebert and Rev. Estil Schale officiating. interment was in the Reedley cemetery.
