Mrs. Abraham Wiens (nee Katherine Kroeker) was born December 12, 1878, at Henderson, Nebraska. She was united in marriage with Abraham F. Wiens in 1898 at Houston, Texas, and ordained as missionaries in 1906, at Jansen, Nebraska. The following year they came to Chicago and began home mission work in MacKinley Park [sic McKinley Park], where after nine years, a good sized congregation was established. The mission at 4221 S. Rockwell street was then opened in 1917. Rev. Wiens passed away in 1937, and Mrs. Wiens continued in the service until her death. She is survived by her seven daughters Mrs. Katherine Neufeld of Chicago, Mrs. Elizabeth Thiessen of India, Mrs. Mary Toews of Africa, Mrs. Martha Ewert of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Mrs. Helene Dick of Montana, and Sarah and Esther of Chicago. Also, there are four brothers and three sisters, one of whom is Mrs. Anderson of Africa. Mrs. Wiens’ life devotion was mission work. Spreading the gospel, visiting the sick, teaching and helping the unfortunate were her joys.
