MENNONITE MINISTER DIES IN HIS SLEEP; IS FOUND BY FAMILY DEAD IN BED

Henderson, Nebr. — After assisting with services in the Mennonite Brethren church in Henderson Sunday evening, Rev. George Wiens, 72, died suddenly, probably about midnight, at his home as the result of a heart attack.

Rev. Wiens, who had been in good health, took part in church services Sunday morning and gave the benediction at the close of the services about nine o'clock last evening. he retired soon after returning home but did not complain of feeling badly, members of the family said. He was found dead early this morning.

Born in South Russia on February 1, 1868, he came to the United States with his parents who settled at Henderson when he was 11 years old. For many years he resided on a farm near Henderson. In 1926, he retired from the farm and since that time has resided in the town of Henderson.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Wiens of Henderson; four sons, Jacob G. of Fairbury, George of Ingalls, Kansas, Dietrich and Peter, both of Fairbury; six daughters, Mrs. H. H. Stobbe of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Mrs. John B. Ediger of Henderson, Mrs. H. J. Towes and Mrs. H. D. Ediger, both of Reedley, California, Mrs. John H. Janzen of Henderson and Miss Helen Wiens at home; four brothers, Rev. F. J. Wiens, a missionary in China, now en route home, P. J. and H. J. both of Reedley, California, and J. J. of Hillsboro, Kansas and two sisters, Mrs. George Kornelson of Hillsboro, Kansas, and Mrs. C. C. Wall of Wasco, California.

Funeral services are expected to be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Mennonite Brethren church in Henderson. Rev. David Hooge of Henderson and rev. Adam Ross of Culbertson will have charge of the services. Interment will be in the M. B. cemetery northwest of Henderson.

— From Reedley, Calif., Mr. and Mrs.P. J. Wiens recently motored to Henderson, Nebr., to attend the funeral of their brother, Rev. Gerhard Wiens. The funeral was held on a Sunday a few weeks ago, on the day Rev. Wiens and his wife had planned to celebrate their golden wedding. He reached the age of 72 years. In Wyoming, while on their way home, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Wiens drove through a snowstorm.
