China Missionary Dies in Minneapolis.
Hillsboro, Kan. — The funeral service for Rev. John D. Wieneke, 56, Mennonite missionary in China from 1935 to 1952, was held here March 17 at the Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church.
Rev. Wieneke died March 13 in Minneapolis, Minn. where he had undergone heart surgery earlier this year. He and his wife moved to Minneapolis from Hutchinson, Kan. in August 1966 to assist in a service to handicapped persons. He was a member of the Orchard Park M. B. Church, Hutchinson.
Rev. Wieneke was born of missionary parents in Shantung Province in northeastern China. He attended school in China, worked in a mission rest home in Holland, attended Bible school in Germany, served in evangelistic work in China with the Mennonite Mission Society, and later in evangelistic and church work in the Arkansas Ozarks.
Mrs. Wieneke is the daughter of the late Henry C. Bartel , pioneer Mennonite missionary in China. Their children are Richard, teaching in Nova Scotia under the M. B. Christian Service Program; Dorothy, working with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assn. in Minneapolis, and Martha, a student at Tabor College.
