HENRY J. WIEBE

Henry J. Wiebe was born in Tracht, East Russia, on Oct. 1, 1880 [sic 1890]. He passed away on Dec. 6 at the age of 80. His parents were John and Justine (Epp) Wiebe, who came from Siemensdorf, Germany. He was the seventh child in a family of 12 children.

Leaving Russia, he came to America at the age of two years with his parents, brothers and sisters. He was baptized in 1906 and became a member of the Emmaus Church of Whitewater, Kan.

On June 4, 1916, Henry was married to Eliese Regier, who lived just east of Newton. Their home was blessed with three sons and one daughter.

Mr. Wiebe enjoyed farming and feeding livestock as a lifelong occupation. He also enjoyed reading the Bible, and taught in Sunday school for many years. He deeply appreciated the fellowship of the family, relatives and friends. Many birthdays and anniversaries were celebrated, including the 50th wedding anniversary in 1966. The most recent celebration was Mr. Wiebe's 80th birthday, which he and Mrs. Wiebe shared with two of their children and their families in Indiana.

He leaves behind his wife, Eliese; his children, Alfred Wiebe of San Francisco, Gertrude and husband Dr. Paul Roten of Elkhart, Ind., Wilbert and wife Dorothy of Whitewater, Rev. Leonard Wiebe and wife Joan of Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchildren; two brothers, John Wiebe of Newton, Kan. and Herman Wiebe of Whitewater; five sisters, Mrs. Margaret (Frank) Busenitz, Mrs. Marie (Gerhard) Harder, Mrs. Ella (Gilbert) Suter, and Mrs. Frieda (Bernhard) Entz. Preceding him in death was Mrs. Justine (John) Busenitz, and two brothers and one sister who died in early childhood.
