SUSANNA WIEBE

Susanna, daughter of Heinrich Janzen and Katharina Gosen Janzen, was born September 16, 1881, in McPherson county, Kansas, and passed away at her home in Medford, Oklahoma, on her birthday, Tuesday, September 16, 1947, at the age of 66 years.

Upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, she was baptized by the Rev. Peter Balzer on September 8, 1901, and became a member of the Medford Mennonite church, Medford, Oklahoma.

On November 15, 1903, she was united in marriage to Frank W. Wiebe. They lived in or near Medford, Oklahoma, with the exception of one year in Hamilton county, Kansas, and several years in Beaver county, Oklahoma.

She was always for others. [sic text missing in original] to her friends and neighbors and ever ready to serve her many relatives in sickness and in health. Her patience during her illness, with never a word of complaint, her love for little children, her never failing cheerfulness and hopefulness, as well as her amazing will to live in order to fulfill her duty as wife and mother were an inspiration to all who visited her. Her pleasant personality won her many dear friends. Her nature was one of unselfishness; her first concern was always for others.

Her health began to fail in 1939, her condition gradually becoming worse until January of this year when she entered the hospital in Wellington, Kansas. Since that time she was unable to attend to her regular household duties. Tuesday afternoon she enjoyed the fellowship of relatives and friends who came to celebrate her birthday. That evening she complained of a severe headache and at 8:45 that night she entered peacefully into her heavenly rest.

She leaves to mourn her departure her deeply bereaved husband and four daughters; Huldah of Washington, D. C.; Pauline of Dodge City, Kansas; Martha of Wichita, Kansas; and Anna of the home. One step-daughter, Marie, preceded her in death. Also surviving are six sisters, Mrs. J. B. Klassen, Dinuba, California, Mrs. J. P. Reimer, Medford, Anna Janzen, Medford, Mrs. J. J. Scherling, North Hollywood, California, Mrs. G. B. Regier, Inola, Mrs. D. H. Janzen, Newton, Kans.; five brothers, Herman Janzen, Reedley, California; Cornelius Janzen, Medford, Henry H. Janzen, Buhler, Kansas, Jacob G. Janzen, Medford, and Abraham H. Janzen, Enid, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, Sept. 19, at the Methodist church in Medford, Rev. David C. Wedel, acting dean of Bethel College, North Newton, Kans., was in charge of the last rites. He was assisted by Rev. A. G. Schmidt, pastor of the Medford Mennonite church and Rev. John Lichti of Deer Creek.

Pall bearers were Reuben Janzen, Paul Janzen, Walter Reimer, Bernard Reimer, Harry Reimer and Henry Regier, all nephews of the deceased.
