Son of Hesston Pastor Dies in Accident

Hesston, Kan. — A one-car accident near here the evening of Aug. 24 claimed the life of Kenneth James Wiebe, 15, son of Rev. and Mrs. Peter B. Wiebe of Hesston.

The youth was returning home from work at the Howard Beck farm when the car went out of control in loose sand on the road and overturned. He was thrown out and suffered fatal head injuries.

The largely attended funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Heston Mennonite Church, of which his father is pastor. James Scorch, assistant pastor, Milo Kauffman and Jerry Weaver officiated.

After the funeral sermon by Rev. Kauffman, Pastor Wiebe spoke to the audience in a moving response, in which he testified to God's all-sufficient grace in such time of bereavement. Referring to the frequently-asked question, "Who is the pastor's pastor?" he said, "You (the congregation) are our pastor, as you have shown so wonderfully through your many expressions of love, sympathy and prayer."

Surviving in addition to the parents are three brothers, David, Lynn, and Carl, and two sisters, Rachel and Marcia, all of the home; and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Hosteler of Goshen, Ind. and Rev. and Mrs Ben P. Wiebe of Plum coulee, Manitoba.

As a memorial the family suggested that contributions be given to sponsor a peace worker in Vietnam.

• The memorial fund in memory of Kenneth Wiebe, son of Rev. and Mrs. Peter Wiebe of Hesston, has reached nearly $1,000. Kenneth was fatally injured in an auto accident Aug. 24. The fund is to be used in support of Doug Hostetter, son of Rev. and Mrs. B. Charles Hostetter who is engaged in Christian service in Vietnam. A memorial booklet has been prepared by the Wiebes in memory of their son, who was 15 at the time of his death.
