HERMAN A. WIEBE

Herman Arthur Wiebe, son of Jacob B. and Aganetha (Neufeld) Wiebe, was born at Medford, Okla. on Sept. 27, 1907. Later the family moved near Weatherford, Okla. In 1917 when he was ten, they moved to the Panhandle of Texas and located six and one half miles north of Waka, which was his home at the time of his sudden death.

On Nov. 1, 1925 he was baptized by Rev. H. U. Schmidt and became a faithful member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, Waka, which is now a part of the Perryton Mennonite Church.

After elementary education, he attended the Bible academy in Meno, Okla. for a couple of years.

Herman and Elma Friesen were married at the Mennonite Brethren Church near Hooker, Okla. on Dec. 29, 1940. The Lord blessed them with five children. It was a special joy for him to see each of the children take Jesus as Savior and establish Christian homes of their own.

Besides being a well-known farmer and rancher, he was a pillar in the church, serving as elder as well as in many other areas of service. He was instrumental in the merger of the Bethel Mennonite Church, Waka, and the Perryton Mennonite Church. He served on the building committee when the present church building was built in 1969.

At the time of his death he was president of the Board of Trustees of Waka School, on which board he had served for 32 years. he was also on the Perryton Youth for Christ board of directors, and belonged to the Pampa Area of Gideon International.

He died unexpectedly on April 17, 1974 [sic 1975], suffering a fatal heart attack while in the field near his home.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Elma; five children, Alene and husband Rodney Hofer of Hitchcock, S. D., Nadine and husband, Rev. Willis Busenitz of Busby, Mont., Glenda and husband Wesley Schroeder of Collinsville, Okla., Roy and wife Beverly and Twila and husband James Collinsworth, all of Perryton, and seven grandchildren.

Memorial serviced were conducted at the Perryton Mennonite Church with Pastor Chryston Harms officiating.
