GUSTAV A. WIEBE

Gustav A. Wiebe was born in Marienburg, West Prussia, Germany on Dec. 19, 1880. At this place he was baptized upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Redeemer and united with the Mennonite Church.

He migrated to the United States, arriving in Paso Robles, Calif. in 1907. On Sept. 10, 1910 he was married to Maria Dyck in the San Marcus Mennonite Church. To this union were born five children, three daughters and two sons. Throughout their married life they lived on the farm southwest of Paso Robles. They united with the First Mennonite Church in Paso Robles.

Mrs. Wiebe passed away July 10, 1957. Throughout his life Mr. Wiebe enjoyed good health. In September 1960 he left on a trip to Germany to visit the old home place and his brothers and sisters and many relatives. He enjoyed this trip very much, traveling by jet plane. He returned again in December of the same year.

In the past year following an operation his health failed slowly, though he never complained. He had spent one month of this year visiting his daughter, Mrs. Herbert Heppner and family and others in Winton, returning Sunday, March 25. Early Monday morning, March 26, just as he was up and about the house, he suffered a stroke. After that he was a patient in the Paso Robles hospital and more recently in the Paso Robles Nursing Home. Here he quietly passed away to be with his Lord on Friday afternoon, May 18.

He leaves to mourn his passing the five children, Adolph of Fresno, William of Paso Robles, Mrs. Hertha Heppner of Winton, Mrs. Erna Wiebe of Adelaide, and Ella of San Luis Obispo, 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four brothers and four sisters in Germany. He attained the age of 81 years four months and 29 days.

Funeral services were held May 21 at the First Mennonite Church in Paso Robles with Rev. Robert Suderman and Rev. M. J. Galle officiating.
