NORMAN WHITNEY

Norman Whitney of R.R. 3, Orillia, Ont. passed away June 8. He was born Feb. 10, 1900 in Maple Valley, Ont. and spent his entire life in the small communities of Maple Valley and Hampshire Mills, where he farmed and worked as a builder. He married Catherine Cairns in 1926. He was converted in the Crossley-Hunter evangelism campaigns of the 1920s. He became active in young people's in Gray United Church. He taught Sunday school for 60 years in Gray United, then the Evangelical Fellowship and the Christian Fellowship Chapel. He was an active Gideon and did pulpit supply in many area churches. He was in good health until breaking a hip in August, 1989 and spent his last 10 months in hospital. He is survived by daughters Ethel of Orillia and Joan Smart of Jos, Nigeria; son George of Orillia Township; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The funeral was June 11 in the Christian Fellowship Chapel, Orillia Township, with George Peck and Edwin Smart ministering.
