ELMER JAY WHITE

Services for Elmer Jay White, 83, of 44751 Ida, Wichita, Kan., who passed away Oct. 29, were held Nov. 2 at Cedar Chapel Methodist Church of which he was a charter member. Mr. White donated the ground and helped to build this church, located across the street from his home.

Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. at the Pennsylvania Mennonite Cemetery near Hesston, Kan.

Mr. White was born in Ohio and came to Harvey County, Kan. with his parents when a small boy. On Dec. 23, 1906 he was married to Sadie Byler. They lived on a farm northeast of Newton for 34 years before moving to Wichita in 1940.

In 1962 his wife, Sadie, passed away. A son, Calvin R., preceded him in death in August 1966.

He lived alone until February 1964 when he married Mrs. Maggie Williams of Newton.

Survivors include his widow, Maggie; five sons, Warren B. and wife Lorraine of Wichita, Allen A. and wife Edna of Peabody, Clement E. and wife Margaret, Dale F. and wife Wilma, both of Newton, James L. of Caracas, Venezuela; five daughters, Gladys, Mrs. George Zook of Newton, Mary, Mrs. Harry Wenger of Wellman, Iowa, Miss Neva of Manhattan, Kan., Miss Elsie of Lebanon, Ore., and Erna, Mrs. Melvin Jantz of McPherson, Kan.; four stepdaughters and one stepson; five sisters, Mrs. Ella McFarlane and Mrs. Mary McFarlane, both of Hesston, Kan., Mrs. Ada Royer of Newton, Mrs. Ida Zook of Larned, Kan., and Mrs. Esther Crumpacker, McPherson, Kan.; 57 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
