HARRY WEST

Harry West was born in White Side County near Morrison, Ill. on Dec. 29, 1876, the oldest son of William and Lucy Ann (Fieldsend) West.

He was married to Anna Stauffer on Nov. 16, 1899. He moved to Oregon in May 1905 and resided in and near Hubbard, Ore. until about a year and a half ago when his failing health demanded his move to a nursing home. He passed away at the Rock of Ages Home near McMinnville, Ore. on Oct. 18, 1965, at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 20 days.

To this union were born six children: Mrs. Spencer (Gladys) Nice, Woodland, Wash.; Ray West, Santa Cruz, Calif.; Mrs. Roy (Zelma) Kenagy, deceased; Mrs. Samuel Sr. (Mary) Hostetler, Hubbard; Clarence West, Hubbard; Mrs. Leslie (Edna) Hostetler, Aurora, Ore.

His wife, Anna, and one daughter, Zelma, preceded him in death, as did the granddaughter, Ellen West, a grandson-in-law, Clayton Bender, and a great-grandson, Anthony Tod Kenagy.

On Feb. 8, 1947 he was married to Frances Bawel in Mineral, Ill. He leaves his wife Frances; five children, 23 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. May [sic Mary] Kahler of Morrison, Ill. and Minnie Belle West of the Silver Gardens Nursing Home, Silverton, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Nettie (Mrs. George) West and Maude (Mrs. Frank) West, living in Morrison, Ill. (George and Frank West are deceased.) There are also several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

At the time of his death he was a member of the Zion Mennonite Church. He was always interested in church work in his younger years. He was a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent, serving also as secretary-treasurer of the district mission board and secretary of Mennonite Aid.

The service was conducted by John Lederach and John Garber of the Zion Mennonite Church on Oct. 22, 1965 at 10 a.m. Interment was in the Zion cemetery.
