LIGHTNING KILLS AMISH YOUTH

Apple Creek, Ohio. — Seeking shelter from a rain storm under a cherry tree near his home proved fatal to Daniel E. Wengerd, a 17-year-old Old Order Amish youth of rural Apple Creek. Lightning hit the tree, causing instant death.

The storm struck a few minutes after Daniel had left his farm home on a bicycle on his way to the Yoder Saw Mill. His lifeless body was discovered by his father.

Bishop Roman S. Yoder conducted the funeral services at the home on June 29. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Wengerd, Sr., and eight brothers.
